YOU’LL remember where you were. Those you were with, who you grabbed hold of, the moment that pair of Nike Tiempo Legend boots shuffled across the platform. A Liverpool captain was about to lift the European Cup for a sixth time, and the honour would fall to Jordan...
JUST prior to England’s 4-0 win over Kosovo on Sunday, our own Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain took centre stage. Chamberlain’s international career began seven and a half years ago, in a 1-0 win over Norway – incidentally Roy Hodgson’s first game as England manager. He...
With the aftermath of Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester City still rumbling on, there’s another huge match coming up at Anfield this Sunday. John Gibbons is joined by Gareth Roberts, Andy Heaton and Jay McKenna to look back on the past week and ahead to...
“ONE greedy bastard, there’s only one greedy bastard.” As far as witty retorts go, it isn’t the best by Liverpool’s standards. Yet Raheem Sterling seems to constantly take the bait. Whether that is by having a quiet game or the one witnessed on Sunday, there is...
AH, the international break’s back. If, like myself, you’re lucky enough to be able to chat wham about your football club for a living, the international break is just that – a chance to switch off until the real football is returns. There will be others –...
LIVERPOOL top of the league. Unbeaten, unruffled, a fresh new trophy in the club cabinet, the ground buzzing, the positives flowing, the routine back and the weekends filled once more. And then you go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like, “international...
THERE was a moment in the England v Colombia match last week which really got under my ribs. It was one of those moments where you sense an inevitable doom which will colour the coming months in a very negative light. My stomach fell away like an open lift shaft and,...
With the World Cup in full flow, the big story around the England football team is the publishing of training ground notes which appeared to give the team away for England’s upcoming game against Panama. Several British newspapers printed the pictures, but were...
THE story of England at Italia 90 cannot be told without considering happenings off the field, writes SIMON HART in a chapter from his new book, World in Motion: The Inside Story of Italia 90. Only five years had passed since the Heysel Stadium disaster, when a surge...
I’M not a fan of international football. I wrote about why that is the case back in June, so I won’t bother going over all the same ground again here. I’ve been really interested to watch the press’s reaction to England’s situation recently, though. As a non-lover of...
The third episode of season one of The Pub Crawlers Podcast was recorded in Nottingham, as Rob Gutmann hosts Steve Graves and Martin Fitzgerald to discuss the local pub scene, Indian restaurants, students, and more…
The Pub Crawlers Podcast represents a quest to find the very best authentic UK pubs, filmed on location inside some of the finest boozers across the UK and Ireland.
Well, sort of. It’s equally about friends having three to four pint-fuelled, quintessential pub conversations, on any subjects that damn well occur to them, in a range of outstanding boozers across the land. So, really, it’s as much about what we get up to in pubs as the pubs themselves.
The shows are presented by self-styled boozer connoisseur and long-time pub designer and owner, Rob Gutmann, who is on a mission to find the very best pubs in the UK and to define the essence of the ‘true’ pub.
Featuring a wide range of guests (mainly Rob’s mates), we’ll be visiting pubs the length and breadth of the country, bedding into the very best of them, and chatting about our lives lived in and around boozers.
The first season of the Pub Crawlers focuses on the North of England, taking in Chester, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, and even a brief foray to the north side of the Midlands in Nottingham.
Plug yourself in to the ongoing conversation as it disappears down all manner of tenuously pub-related worm holes, with your new mates at TPC. And you don’t need a pint to enjoy us, but it might help…
