“I fully intended to sign a new contract after the Champions League final, but the events of the past five to six weeks have changed all that.” – Steven Gerrard, July 2005 “If, at that point in time, I was offered a contract, I most definitely would have signed...
IT’S January 2019. Nathaniel Clyne, signed for £12.5m from Southampton in July 2015, has already made two appearances for his new club Bournemouth — in which they’ve conceded five goals. Those two consecutive starts are his first back-to-back games since May...
“TO play for Liverpool is the dream, the aim, and I can’t see it changing, to be fair. “To say I have done that for the whole of my career is something I have dreamed of being able to say.” Trent Alexander Arnold’s quotes about becoming Liverpool’s next...
“HE gets forward and he shoots, he takes freekicks as a teenager in the Champions League. “That tells you he’s not only got the confidence in himself, his teammates have confidence in him and that is huge.” Confidence is a strange concept in football....
THIS time last year, Liverpool’s first-choice full-backs were Joe Gomez and Alberto Moreno. Turn the clock forward five years from now and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson were still the men in possession. It already feels like...
“IT’S always this little plus if they come from Liverpool. “If I have two players, same quality, but one speaks proper English and the other one speaks Scouse, the Scouser is in! “That’s why we are Liverpool.” It’s a small statement from Jürgen...
LIVERPOOL have reached their eighth European Cup final, and with all the stories we’ve been told for years about the club’s illustrious history in the competition, the younger generation now have their own to tell. The chance to experience the delirious highs of...
THERE are fewer long-standing social cliques in the city of Liverpool than those who are or have been allied in some form to the amateur football scene. Liverpool, in many ways, is a city which very much acts in the form of a community. There would be no night out...
LOOK at these men, writes CAOIMHE O’NEILL. These men, in their red ties who have fancifully danced us into the elite ballroom of a European Cup final. Another European Cup final and it’s about time. The players have fought tooth and nail to get us here,...
A FRIEND’S dad has made it a hobby of his to religiously run the rule over Liverpool’s up-and-coming talent. It’s his bit of “me time” – when he escapes from the family and plays amateur scout for a couple of hours. Watching the club’s academy sides at Kirkby, he...
The Pub Crawlers Podcast: Down The Local with Mo Stewart (S1E5)
The fifth episode of season one of The Pub Crawlers Podcast was recorded ‘Down The Local’ in Liverpool, as Rob Gutmann hosts Steve Graves and Mo Stewart to discuss worst pub toilet experiences, music in pubs, Glastonbury, and more…
The Pub Crawlers Podcast represents a quest to find the very best authentic UK pubs, filmed on location inside some of the finest boozers across the UK and Ireland.
Well, sort of. It’s equally about friends having three to four pint-fuelled, quintessential pub conversations, on any subjects that damn well occur to them, in a range of outstanding boozers across the land. So, really, it’s as much about what we get up to in pubs as the pubs themselves.
The shows are presented by self-styled boozer connoisseur and long-time pub designer and owner, Rob Gutmann, who is on a mission to find the very best pubs in the UK and to define the essence of the ‘true’ pub.
Featuring a wide range of guests (mainly Rob’s mates), we’ll be visiting pubs the length and breadth of the country, bedding into the very best of them, and chatting about our lives lived in and around boozers.
The first season of the Pub Crawlers focuses on the North of England, taking in Chester, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, and even a brief foray to the north side of the Midlands in Nottingham.
Plug yourself in to the ongoing conversation as it disappears down all manner of tenuously pub-related worm holes, with your new mates at TPC. And you don’t need a pint to enjoy us, but it might help…
