THERE’S nothing more I want than for Liverpool Football Club to win the Premier League. Sure, world peace would be great and there are any number of political circumstances around the globe I wouldn’t mind being sort out in a manner I judge to be favourable, but if I...
ALL of a sudden, after Burnley and Leicester followed familiar scripts, Liverpool FC is the prime critical focus of the sports media. The notion of a “Crisis Club” has been around for as long as I can remember, albeit in a different guise. Once upon a time, the...
SO, where do we start this week? I was going to begin writing this before the Leicester match but decided to hang fire in case anything of note happened that rendered my article useless before it was published. As it happened, we just got to watch the same match again...
WHEN we’re walking away from Anfield – for my gang down Sleepers Hill and Walton Lane, heading back into the bowels of Liverpool’s North End – a sole variable structures the conversation. Have Liverpool won? Seldom do we ask ourselves, have we been entertained? After...
LIVERPOOL kicked off their Champions League campaign in front of an expectant Anfield, but much as the competition might have changed, the problems remained the same. The manager needs to wear this one, irresistible when on top, incapable when under the cosh, how many...
AS Liverpool enter a crucial part of the season, John Gibbons is joined by Simon Hughes, Dan Fieldsend and Mike Nevin to analyse the international break from a Liverpool point of view and look forward to a massive game away at Manchester City. In part 2 we also speak...
LAST Thursday the transfer window closed, or “slammed shut” if you prefer to use Sky’s exaggerated term (I’m not sure that a deadline can “slam” as such), with Liverpool making some pretty decent purchases in the allotted time. The signing of...
SO, how are we today? I went to bed at 10.55pm, about five hours after we pretty much knew that nothing was going to happen but only five minutes before the unbearable “slamming shut” of the window, the point that Jim White’s transfer knowledge would bring...
THIS summer’s transfer window – at home but maybe even more so in Europe – was bonkers. For the first time in a while, Reds fans weren’t quite so rude about Sky Sports’ Jim White or so sniffy about the whole affair as Liverpool participated in the madness right to the...
Today Ed Malyon, sports editor at The Independent, has written an exclusive story detailing Philippe Coutinho’s desire for “clear-the-air talks” with Liverpool following the apparent breakdown of his transfer to Barcelona. You can read the article...
The third episode of season one of The Pub Crawlers Podcast was recorded in Nottingham, as Rob Gutmann hosts Steve Graves and Martin Fitzgerald to discuss the local pub scene, Indian restaurants, students, and more…
The Pub Crawlers Podcast represents a quest to find the very best authentic UK pubs, filmed on location inside some of the finest boozers across the UK and Ireland.
Well, sort of. It’s equally about friends having three to four pint-fuelled, quintessential pub conversations, on any subjects that damn well occur to them, in a range of outstanding boozers across the land. So, really, it’s as much about what we get up to in pubs as the pubs themselves.
The shows are presented by self-styled boozer connoisseur and long-time pub designer and owner, Rob Gutmann, who is on a mission to find the very best pubs in the UK and to define the essence of the ‘true’ pub.
Featuring a wide range of guests (mainly Rob’s mates), we’ll be visiting pubs the length and breadth of the country, bedding into the very best of them, and chatting about our lives lived in and around boozers.
The first season of the Pub Crawlers focuses on the North of England, taking in Chester, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, and even a brief foray to the north side of the Midlands in Nottingham.
Plug yourself in to the ongoing conversation as it disappears down all manner of tenuously pub-related worm holes, with your new mates at TPC. And you don’t need a pint to enjoy us, but it might help…
