James Milner will leave Liverpool this summer, so we’re re-releasing our player profile about his journey to Anfield to celebrate The Reds’ greatest ever free signing…

To help tell the second part of this story, we first speak to Premier League legend and goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who Liverpool fans may remember first from his three-year spell at Anfield, before he went on to make over 500 appearances, including playing alongside Milner at Aston Villa from the summer of 2008.

Sticking with Aston Villa and another former Liverpool player in Emile Heskey, who made his move to the Midlands in January 2009 just a few months after Milner himself had joined the club, and was quickly wowed by the efforts of his new teammate.

And finally Manchester City fan David Mooney, from the Blue Moon podcast, who remembers the feeling among fans when Milner arrived at the club and speaks on the reception he gets from fellow supporters to this day.

In part one, we heard from Phil Hay, Leeds United correspondent for The Athletic, Newcastle fan Alex Hurst from the True Faith podcast and former Magpie and Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique — and you can listen to that here.
