There are more solutions to squad issues during the Winter window than being discussed. Its slightly disingenuous to say that no ones selling at that time of the season. If football of the modern age shows anything, its that everyone/everything has a price. There is also nothing wrong with looking for a short contract stop gap in order to push on for the title. The Ronny Rosenthal transfer gets done to death, but in this context it shows the merits of signing the right player for a short period. Lastly, taking a punt on your 4th/5th choice player for a position can still pay dividends. Transfers are an imprecise science and sometimes your first choice doesn’t work out and sometimes your third choice does. Even if a winter signing that isn’t the first choice doesn’t make the desired impact they can become a squad player or be sold.
My point is that while I back Klopp to the hilt and think that he is definitely the man to take us forward, the lack of winter signings was a mistake. A bit of impetus from a new signing could’ve helped to get us through what turned out to be an awful couple of months.
So according to you, its a mistake even though we have qualified for the top 4 and we dont have any stop gap players who we have to normally shift off our books..
We had a bad 2 months which ultimately cost us a more comfortable top 4 finish, yes and we rode through it kept our powder dry and finished the job. I an extra player brought us from 4th to 3rd then he isnt worth it because we are good enough for 3rd right now..
I dont get your point at all.
Its not that complicated really. I’m not talking about qualifying for the top four. I’m talking about challenging for the league. Before Mane went to the African Cup of Nations and we had a bad injury run we were 1st. During January and February our points per game dropped significantly. All I’m saying is that a couple of signings may have avoided us having an over reliance on fringe squad players and kids. Also you can’t presume that all business done in the winter window would lead to stop gap players.
