The Pub Crawlers Podcast represents a quest to find the very best authentic UK pubs, filmed on location inside some of the finest boozers across the UK and Ireland.
Well, sort of. It’s equally about friends having three to four pint-fuelled, quintessential pub conversations, on any subjects that damn well occur to them, in a range of outstanding boozers across the land. So, really, it’s as much about what we get up to in pubs as the pubs themselves.
The shows are presented by self-styled boozer connoisseur and long-time pub designer and owner, Rob Gutmann, who is on a mission to find the very best pubs in the UK and to define the essence of the ‘true’ pub.
Featuring a wide range of guests (mainly Rob’s mates), we’ll be visiting pubs the length and breadth of the country, bedding into the very best of them, and chatting about our lives lived in and around boozers.
The first season of the Pub Crawlers focuses on the North of England, taking in Chester, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, and even a brief foray to the north side of the Midlands in Nottingham.

Past tense… d’oh.
An interesting discussion, but I think some of the discussions on salaries and transfers aren’t grounded in the realities of what is sustainable given the relative revenues of Liverpool versus some of our competitors, Man U and City particularly.
The point has been made a number of times on here, by Rob and others, that Liverpool don’t complete on salaries and should be ready to pay big money to at least a couple of star players. That might make sense but only if our overall salary spend is kept in balance with our revenue.
Look at the comparative level of revenue and overall salaries for the LFC against our wealthier rivals for the year to May 2016 (figures in millions):-
ManU 513/232
City 391/198
Arsenal 345/192
Chelsea 319/217
Liverpool 301/208
Liverpool’s are not tight when it comes to salaries. In fact there could be an argument that we are spending too much as a percentage of revenue based on the 2016 accounts when we posted a loss. Only ManU spent significantly more than us on overall salaries in 2015/16.
If our overall spend is high, what about the salaries for the star players. Coutinho’s contract renewal will make him Liverpool’s best player on 150k per week according to reports. Rob talk’s about our rivals paying much bigger salaries than that. 150k per week is more than any of the Arsenal team are currently being paid. Yes City, ManU and Chelsea may pay a few of there stars more, but they have revenues that allow that.
You guys need to sort your mic’s out, constantly turning the volume up and down each time somebody else speaks.
