Brilliant interview. Very much enjoyed that. The bit about football (or any sport in general really) providing people with that escapism / therapy from everyday life – spot on. Sort of what this site does – you feel part of a collective, debate on how good / bad the team are playing, watch the game, become a bit more “meh”, realise the therapeutic effect and that you’ve forgotten about all the shite going on elsewhere and then go full circle again.
It’s very rare for football and LGBT subjects to cross paths, largely because few feel safe enough to tell their stories. Thank you Juliet for your courage, and also to Neil and the rest of TAW for helping give exposure to more diverse and oppressed perspectives.
Fantastic interview guys, thank you. Don’t be afraid to step outside the lfc/football realm, especially if you can continue with this shows of this quality. Thanks again.
Just finished her book. It’s very good.
