THE Echo have exclusively revealed that Liverpool are set to leave Melwood in favour of merging the first team and academy training facilities at the current academy base in Kirkby.
Jürgen Klopp is reported to be the driving force behind the move, holding the belief that all players — from under-nine level right up to first team level — should train on the same site.
The current academy site will be expanded to 60 acres in a £50 million development, with work set to get underway in early 2018 — subject to terms being finalised with Knowsley Council.
Sounds like a great idea this. Glad to see Klopp has been the one pushing for it too.
DANIEL Sturridge was due to return to training at Melwood today having overcome a virus that saw him sent home from the club’s warm-weather training camp in La Manga.
Dejan Lovren is also understood to be close to a return after travelling to Germany to seek specialist treatment on a knee injury.
The only other injury concerns are long-term; Danny Ings, Marko Grujic and Ovie Ejaria.
Brendan Goes Brent
IT’S being reported today that Brendan Rodgers used the names of Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling in a bid to persuade Moussa Dembele to sign for Celtic.
He told the young Frenchman: “If you don’t believe me, take my phone, call Luis Suarez and ask him what he thinks about me, call Raheem Sterling. I’ve developed many players and you can be one of those, but it’s up to you.”
Reminds me of something/someone…
“You will never work in a place like this again. It’s brilliant. Fact. And you’ll never have another boss like me, someone who’s basically a chilled-out entertainer.”
EVERYBODY in the office is made up with this. Managed to record an hour-long TAW Player exclusive today with Lucas Leiva, looking back on his 10 years at Liverpool.
If you want to hear that, make sure you SUBSCRIBE. It’s just a fiver a month. Loads of boss content.
What more could you ask for?
