MIKE Nevin and Steve Graves join Neil Atkinson for the third part of What We Call History 2006/7.

Of course there’s the football – the memorable trip to the Nou Camp and the beating of Barcelona, battering Arsenal in the league at Anfield thanks to hat-trick hero Peter Crouch and further European victories over PSV and Chelsea to set up a trip to Greece.

But all this was set to the backdrop of drama off the pitch. DIC pulled out of a takeover while Tom Hicks and George Gillett emerged from America promising big bucks, new stadiums and spades in the ground.

Rafa Benitez was also ruffling feathers – as he does – with his infamous “small club” analysis of Everton. And the pattern continued as the season wore on. Liverpool reached a European Cup Final – another one – but after AC Milan and Athens, Rafa was quick to highlight that all wasn’t quite what it should be behind the scenes.

It’s another big listen, another trip down memory lane, another What We Call History.
