SO I’ve asked a few what they reckon will go on this season along with a few other questions to help take temperatures.
We’ll put these on over the next couple of days. Here are the first four – Dave Sutton, Karl Coppack, Daniel Fitzsimmons and Steve Graves.
Let’s go:
Karl Coppack
What do Liverpool still need to do before the window closes?
Buy at least two first team players who are specialists in one position rather than alright in a couple.
Which Liverpool player are you most looking forward to watching?
Sounds odd but Andre Wisdom. I like angry players and I want to see if he is angry and lion hearted or just looks it. Like Skrtel.
What amusement arcade game do you excel at?
Never an arcade player but no one’s getting close at the original Mario Kart. No one.
How many points and what position do you think Liverpool will finish with?
66pts and 6th.
Whose back are you getting on early?
Joe Allen’s been giving me a piggyback for a while now.
What are your drinking plans before the first game of the season?
I’m bringing a couple of mates who I write with up to the game. Time may be a factor. Probably go to Lark Lane after the match though.
Who do you think will win the league?
Chelsea. Comfortably.
Who do you think will go down?
Palace, Hull, Sunderland
Who is your favourite player Martin O’Neill has ever managed?
Muzzy Izzet. He lives near my sister. Has a large farmhouse completely incongruous with its surroundings.
Make three predictions across the league season.
Moyes won’t survive the season. A Championship side will win the League Cup. Six managers fired by Christmas.
What are you least looking forward to this season?
The over-examination of and constant selling of what entails ‘progress’. I’m just going to enjoy the games.
You are DJing to a wedding crowd. The couple are 28. What song are you dropping at around 11pm to make it go right off?
I only DJ selfishly so would go for California Sun by The Ramones but if pushed I always found that I Want You Back by The Jacksons moved the stragglers into dancers. Odd song for a wedding though.
What are you most looking forward to this season?
Ideally going to the game without worrying. Not sure how long this will last.
Dave Sutton
What do Liverpool still need to do before the window closes?
Buy a centre half. Buy 1 more in the front 3. Finalise the Suarez issue (replace if he is off)
Which Liverpool player are you most looking forward to watching?
Lazy but obviously correct answer. Coutinho. Suarez too. But mostly Coutinho
What amusement arcade game do you excel at?
Donkey derby. Dunno if that counts. I used to be able to complete a footy one on 1 credit. You just used to get to the touchline & cross it and overhead kick it in. I can’t remember what that was called though. We had it in the common room at Rankin Halls.
How many points and what position do you think Liverpool will finish with?
Think – 6th 65pts. Hope – 4th with 72
Whose back are you getting on early?
Jonjo, even though he’s at Swansea.
What are your drinking plans before the first game of the season?
A bar in Menorca. Some sort of bottled lager.
Who do you think will win the league?
City
Who do you think will go down?
So hard this. Could be 3 of 14. Hull, Palace & Stoke
Who is your favourite player Martin O’Neill has ever managed?
There’s so many. There’s Gerry Taggart, Muzzy Izzet, Matt Elliott at Leicester alone. I’m going Steve Guppy though
Make three predictions across the league season.
1. Liverpool to get tatered at West Ham
2. Suarez to incur no further suspension this season if he stays
3. Coutinho young player of the year
What are you least looking forward to this season?
Mourinho. Endless Mourinho. Endless media celebration of Mourinho’s eccentricities. Look how clever he is being a prick. All that.
And the Suarez moralising if he stays. Those 2 could be summed up as general media coverage of the Premier League I suppose
The BT coverage look fucking woeful as well by the way. Not looking forward to that, though to be fair I’ll get round that by not watching it.
You are DJing to a wedding crowd. The couple are 28. What song are you dropping at around 11pm to make it go right off?
I’m 37 this question is unfair. You’ll make fun of my answer. Erm, Hey ya by Outkast maybe. Or I’ll just play She Bangs the Drums by the Stone Roses and go right off on my own.
What are you most looking forward to this season?
Pre match pint with my dad at Anfield. The massive pre match drink before Norwich with Phil Blundell. The kebabs at West Brom. Defo the kebabs at West Brom.
Daniel Fitzsimmons
What do Liverpool still need to do before the window closes?
Strengthen the team not the squad. I reckon that means buying a left back, a centre half, a centre mid and a couple of forwards. All of whom need to be boss.
Which Liverpool player are you most looking forward to watching?
Phil Coutinho
What amusement arcade game do you excel at?
None at all.
How many points and what position do you think Liverpool will finish with?
A few more points than last year hopefully. The prospect of not finishing fourth scares the life out of me.
Whose back are you getting on early?
Jose Enrique. He’s the Bizarro Fabio Aurelio, the football opposite in every way. It’s going to be a long hard slog if there’s no other option. Good job he’s got a hefty back.
What are your drinking plans before the first game of the season?
Cup of tea. Morning kick offs are crap.
Who do you think will win the league?
Man City
Who do you think will go down?
Crystal Palace, Hull, Newcastle
Who is your favourite player Martin O’Neill has ever managed?
Henrik Larsson
Make three predictions across the league season.
Not sure how bold you want these predictions to be, but I’d say Luis Suarez will leave us in January. Joe Kinnear will end up as caretaker manager of Newcastle. And with a bit of luck the nickname ‘Mr Giant Eyes’, coined by a maverick headline writer for David Moyes, will catch on.
What are you least looking forward to this season?
Smoke bombs in stadiums, they’re the new Mexican Wave.
You are DJing to a wedding crowd. The couple are 28. What song are you dropping at around 11pm to make it go right off?
I’m not a massive fan of weddings, and the bar staff and I would probably be looking to empty the place out by 11, so maybe a bit of Slipknot. Or End Of The Road by Boyz II Men.
What are you most looking forward to this season?
Seeing us play in the third kit as much as possible.
Steve Graves
What do Liverpool still need to do before the window closes?
Sign one or two players who improve the first team. Probably one wide player who does thos directly and one striker to provide like-for-like cover for Daniel Sturridge. Oh and a left-back.
Which Liverpool player are you most looking forward to watching?
Obviously Coutinho, but I also hope Luis Alberto gets some chances and some patience. He looks a lovely player.
What amusement arcade game do you excel at?
Virtua Tennis. I’ve genuinely never been beaten, either in the arcades or on consoles.
How many points and what position do you think Liverpool will finish with?
71, which will be just enough for fifth.
Whose back are you getting on early?
I don’t, generally, but for Jose Enrique I could make an exception.
What are your drinking plans before the first game of the season?
A couple in town, maybe one in the Flat Iron. Possibly a whisky. Early kick-off means this needs some planning.
Who do you think will win the league?
Chelsea.
Who do you think will go down?
Crystal Palace, Hull City, Stoke City
Who is your favourite player Martin O’Neill has ever managed?
Thanks to Championship Manager I developed a bit of a second-team thing with Wycombe Wanderers for a while. Back then O’Neill was a bright young manager who was going to bring Premier League football to Adams Park. In 1994/95 Wycombe came within touching distance of the second tier. Cyrille Regis, aged 94, scored loads of early-season goals before putting his feet up in November. So him.
Make three predictions across the league season
Roy Hodgson will pick Jordon Ibe for England.
Napoli will be drawn against English opposition in Europe.
The January transfer window will be chaotic.
What are you least looking forward to this season?
Twitter.
You are DJing to a wedding crowd. The couple are 28. What song are you dropping at around 11pm to make it go right off?
Depressingly this couple are three years younger than me. Even more depressingly, that probably means they like music made when I was 13 and they were 10. That a typical indie disco set is essentially the same as it was in 2003 is an indictment of everything ever, but mostly of people. It’s always people to blame, I find. I hope their marriage is brief and unhappy. I’m not playing music for these people.
What are you most looking forward to this season?
Having fun watching football.
“Mourinho. Endless Mourinho. Endless media celebration of Mourinho’s eccentricities. Look how clever he is being a prick. All that.”
Probably the best description of the football media I’ve come across
She bangs the drums. This is all.
“Whose back are you getting on early?” – made me laugh that !!
Someone take away the razor blades from Daniel please.
