Nice TAW mention
Mignolet: Top top keeper, i’m really glad we signed him. I think he has proven over the past couple years that he is one of the best keepers in the league. Had a few fantastic saves over the past couple games but other than that he was rarely troubled. That in itself is a good sign though. I can remember plenty of times where Reina has had nothing to do for a whole match then 1 shot random comes in and they score. He seemed to turn off when he had nothing to do.
Toure: Has played extremely well. Barely troubled but has made a number of fantastic blocks. Both him and Agger seem to be on the same wavelength which is good to see.
Aspas: Hard to say at this point but he looks like he could be a quality player. Just seems like a direct upgrade for Downing. 3 goals in 3 games, though not especially spectacular, he gets in good positions and scores goals (something Downing lacks). His passing hasnt been that amazing but he has still linked up quite well with Gerrard and Coutinho (as well as Sterling vs Indonesia).
Alberto: Haven’t really seen much of him. He seems very comfortable on the ball and definitely has an eye for a pass. He has been played much deeper than I expected, as I thought he would be played in that AM role. I really hope he is groomed for that AM role because we are seriously lacking in that position when we push Coutinho out to LW. He seems very talented though and his versatility is definitely another strength. It is good to have players like Aspas, Alberto, Suarez, and Coutinho who can move about and play a number of positions throughout a match effortlessly.
Besides our new signings just a couple notes:
I have mentioned this before but I really don’t like the midfield 3 of Lucas, Gerrard, Allen. It just feels like it is missing that offensive pressure / threat. It would be perfect with the Gerrard of 08/09 but now it seems like Gerrard / Allen should be fighting for the same position in the CM role and not both playing it.
Borini has done absolutely nothing to prove he has a place in our side. When you have players like Coutinho and Aspas picking apart the side and Borini still ends up being invisible against a weak team it really does not look good. He doesn’t seem to link up well with anyone and lacks the pace or skill to be a threat on his own. He’s still young though so we have to give him a bit more time. He could end up being a new Kuyt like player.
I really want to see a lineup of:
———————Mignolet——————–
Johnson——Toure——Agger———Enrique
————-Lucas————Gerrard—————-
——————–Coutinho——————-
——-Aspas————————Suarez—-
