Went to Cardiff twice but can’t really remember Birmingham at all compared to Arsenal which is weird when it’s only a couple of months apart. The Owen Final is my favourite childhood memory. Weather was great and Arsenal fans seemed sound because of a mutual dislike of United. I was only a little 9 year old kid when the Owen goals went in; thought I was gonna get stampeded on.
Another very enjoyable podcast. I remember watching the FA Cup final and we were being comprehensively outplayed.
When the ball came to Owen I remember thinking ‘He can’t score from there…but it’s Owen and he never misses…but he still can’t score from there…but he always does….’
Then he slots the ball at half-pace into the only spot where it was possible to beat Seaman – the irresistible force beat the immovable object.
I would quite like to hear one of these ‘What We Call History” pods on Joe Fagan’s time at the helm. It’s often regarded as just an interim appointment, but a lot happened when he was in charge – especially with regard to transfers.
Tremendous!!! I could almost feel the post FA cup hangover coming back. I was serving in the RAF in Cornwall this season and watched ever live match in a pub called the famous firkin, the owner was a mental Scouse so put every game on for us and on the FA cup final day got a load of us started at 09:00, post match was off its head, i had the owner on my shoulder like a parrot going mad we’d just won, with the owner shouting it was free drinks for Liverpool fans.
