With another season about to kick off Neil was joined by John Gibbons and Steve Graves to see just how much traditional LFC pre-season optimism there is and to work out how much the latest phase of the Suarez saga matters. Also joining in, on the phone, was Andi Thomas.

Gotta say I was a bit disappointed with the part one discussion. I feel there are real reasons to be positive at the moment and I think you’re too quick to have a moan.
Other than buying the club and bailing us out FSG and the management seem to have screwed up at every turn. But in ‘the battle of Suarez’ Henry & Rodgers have played it well and seem to have won. So we ought to pause (at least for one week) and say “well done” – not “well done but why aren’t they doing more?” Come On!
In winning ‘TBOS’ Henry has done something solid to help us on the pitch. He has seriously undermined Wenger in the eyes of his fans who are losing patience with the board/manager. If AFC don’t buy well and/or hit the ground running they could be in trouble. It’s not often an owner can have that effect on a rival.
Thirdly – have you looked at the other teams transfer dealings? Is it possible that this is just a really crap/weird transfer window for everyone? Maybe we shouldn’t be rounding up the lynch mob just yet.
Lastly – did you notice how many quality players just don’t want to come to Liverpool? This is not the board haggling over fees or wages. This is players just preferring other clubs. The only way that changes is by the team we do have doing better on the pitch. If you want to make a case for “we’re in this situation cos FSG screwed up last summer” – fair enough. But this summer, I think they’ve done a good job in a difficult window.
I agree with the sentiments, as I think by and large the club has done quite well this window, especially given the circumstances. I also think that is wise in the long run to be a bit prudent with your money (not as prudent as wenger though), as money overspent now will be less money to put towards the signing that really makes sense down the track. However, does it seem to anyone else that we seem to making good process (if rumours can be believed at all, which they probably shouldn’t be) towards good signings up until Ian Ayre steps on a plane to supposedly seal the deal and then it all goes to shit. I just learned that we missed out on siqueria, who I refrained from looking up until it looked like he was going to sign and quite liked the look of him, and we end up signing cissokho who i admittedly know nothing about but looks to me to be very similar to Enrique, although perhaps a little less Enrique than Enrique if you know what I mean. I hope I am wrong.
The guys make a good point that being able to get in a marquee signing will kind of make or break it though, even if that is perhaps a little unfair, at least on our scouting team who seem to be doing good work.
Coutinho on the left wing? No! Just no!
He is far better and far more influential in a central, attacking-midfielder role than he is on the wing.
He isn’t a winger. I could understand playing him out there if we didn’t have anyone else, but why not play Ibe there?
Why waste him out on the wing? Almost as bad as not playing him at all.
Just seen the team v Stoke. – Sigh…
hiya lads first time on this courtesy of love follow conquer thanks lads! looking forward to this season few decent signings suarez saga hopefully is over he has kissed and made up thanks to rogers ,has 6 weeks to get his act together just make sure he is well fed before the game . liked the way we played yesterday good footy but still not getting the finishing touches right, time will tell with all the new lads in ,well done sturridge and well done mignolet great debut , lovely keeping , shouldn’t have been in that position but well done lad .
Hey Boys,Why do we get carried away with all this stuff?Would you be annoyed if Asda suddenly started selling Marks & Spencer things? If Sainsburys had a Tesco shelf?
This is the real world here. The fact that you might walk down Anfield Road on your way to the game doesn’t make you anything special.
If you live in South East Asia and have a dollar in your pocket to buy a shirt….well…let’s have a word.
The best we can hope for is to see some good games and I think that Rodgers might give us some.I had reservations at first!
So let’s just look forward to a new season.Just let’s hope we can do something.I think we might surprise a few people.
But so far as off-field activities are concerned…well….it’s nothing to do with us…..we don’t count any more.
We can still have our chats here though;but they count for nothing;the people who run the show ain’t listening!
Best (w)rap in a long time. I would have preferred to get Thomas in once the rot starts, just to get the vitriol and “manager out” bile.
