What a win to go through – a massive victory for The Reds as they vanquished Manchester City from Anfield.
Great performances all over the park from The Reds – Emre Can, Gini Wijnaldum, Andy Robertson and our stellar front three all produced the goods.
The goalkeeper is also a bone of contention.
Neil Atkinson hosts as Melissa Reddy, Dan Morgan, Gareth Roberts and Mike Nevin are all in the room and we also get stuck into the transfer picture.
The Anfield Wrap also announces their new partner redsbet.com and you can click here to come through to their website.
How mad were City’s goal kick routines?
It’s bonkers, but it’s essentially how they build all their attacks. They’re inviting the press from the opposition so that there’s space to pass into, all Pep’s teams have done it.
However much you look at it tho Otamendi/Stones/Fernandinho are not the same caliber as Pique/Puyol/Busquets, they will make mistakes and if you press them like Liverpool did you will get chances.
So mad the league looks like theirs
Has Mike “shouts loudest is right” Nevin aways been this obdurate and know it all?
Yes. And if you wait a few hours, he’ll be back on to tell you you’re a wool.
I enjoyed the irony of Mike interrupting Mel (for 8000th time) to tell her that he ‘respected her opinion’. Maybe let her express it then.
Mike Nevin needs his own show, or he needs to not be on, imo.
For better or worse, he’s too “big of a personality”, too much of a “veteran supporter”, too convinced of the righteousness of his position, too supercilious towards ALL those who disagree with him (independently of the quality of their logic and evidence), perhaps too steeped in the history of the club as well to “play nicely with others” on his own, or for the moderators to really ‘crack the whip’ with him and put him back in his place. With all due respect to him (and I mean it), he needs to be told by the moderator, in no uncertain terms, to be quiet, to stop interrupting, to stop repeating the same argument (or ‘argument’, as is too often the case) over and over and over again. I doubt that will go over well with him. Thus, I conclude he needs his own show, a show as identified with him as the Gutter is with Gutmann.
Who the fuck is Mike Nevin? :)
I’m sorry but Mel Reddy’s Bias towards Karius is unreal, both keepers clearly not good enough for us to step up to the next level, plenty of chances for both.
What bias? None of the participants, with the possible exception of Atko (who pretty much gets EVERYTHING and everyone’s arguments), got/understood Mel’s point re Karius. I am not the biggest fan of how Mel delivers her points verbally (I like her writing much much more) but it wasn’t that difficult, if one were not intent on just making his point (cf. Mike Nevin).
Give Karius enough consecutive games to demonstrate that he can be LFC’s number 1. Don’t be some reactive, so knee-jerk. I suppose people forget that De Gea’s early appearances with Man U were not THAT great.
Or to put it more accurately, Mel’s point is that we’ll be in a better position to judge the ability of Karius with a bigger sample size of his appearances, i.e. give Karius enough consecutive games to demonstrate whether or not he can be No. 1. In other words, if you randomly picked 27 of Mignolet’s 201 appearances it’s very possible the ‘evidence’ will show he is as bad as or worse than Karius. That’s why Mike talking about ‘evidence’ is not helpful here. Not to mention that Mel also says if Karius doesn’t work out then we should buy a world-class keeper in the summer (when one becomes available).
About bias though – for me bias is not being able to say anything about Karius without mentioning his looks or his hair. Bias is giving more leeway to an ‘ugly’ keeper. Bias is saying nonstop he’s never had any good matches (West Brom comes to mind right now). I think what Mel is saying is literally the opposite of bias.
Neil writing off any chance Porto have against us. Heard that a lot from our fans. Think it’s madness. We’re favourites but they’ll cause us problems & I’m nowhere near as confident as many of our fans are.
“Why not buy a top keeper now?”. Er… it would be impossible as top keepers are few and far between and their clubs will not sell them. Apart from that an example of profound insight.
Disappointed guys. Partnering with betting site? Thought more of you.
Agreed. As if there isn’t enough places that run affiliates
now something we are paying a subscription to. Really really poor this.
I presume neither one of yous bothered to look into the PARTICULAR ‘betting site’ in question. Unfortunately, pretty typical these days, this!
Irrespective of whether they donate some of their profit to charideee, its still betting, there’s way too much of it about already, and the house always wins. Basically its an industry for mugging people off. We could do with less of it. Not more.
I looked into it perfectly well thanks chief and I Heard about it in a podcast they did with the manc fanzine fella. Doesn’t change anything. 50% or profits will go to fan based charities. Nothing like a gimmick is there. It’s still promoting gambling. It’s still saturated everywhere and it’s enjoyable when people don’t have to see it. I see there’s other people that agree with me as well. Thanks for the concern though
@David
I find it ironic that the gambling company “gives back” to the community to keep the cycle going.
@sash I can’t seem to reply directly but yeah exactly. Lower income areas are poverty stricken relying on food banks etc which lfc know all too well about and some great work is done but we are supposed to be enthused about a betting company that will give 50% of its profits back. How good of them. These places plague poor areas along with numerous pawn shops but it’s alright if somebody’s making a few quid ay? I’m being fairly reserved here as well. I hope to see nobody on the Anfield Wrap pretend they’re bothered about poverty etc when they are promoting something that is an inherent cause of much of it.
In their defense this is the free show, haven’t heard a mention of it on any of the subscription stuff.
So Karius was showing a bit of passion to bring out more cheers from the Kop and the dude takes offense to that? I would be even more hyped if I was at the Kop end. What narrow minded thinking that.
Is it strange that I am still absolutely buzzing about this result?
Other than it being featured on soccer am, I really don’t get the hate that song gets from some.
It’s like the difference between banter and wit – piped crowd noise, singing sections, set list of songs with times for the crowd to do them, routines worked out in advance on Murdoch owned TV shows (okay, not any more but they’re still tainted)… it’s artificial and feels fake. The Kop should have the freedom to spontaneously come up with a verbal answer to what’s happening on the pitch.
Sugar Sugar is hella catchy though.
Dan Morgan’s comment about Klopp not Playing Mingolet and Virgil together in order to protect Virgil from Mingolet is the best comment ive heard for a while. ha ha ha
We are not paying £75 million for you to have your swede done in by the Migs…..
It’s best for all concerned.
Good show
Im also in the Melissa Reddy camp about Karius at least being given a volume of games to judge him on.
Melissa Reddy is exactly right re Karius, Mig has had enough chance to impress.
Loved the pod but less of Mike Nevin and his constant interruptions and schoolboy ‘well why not?’ replies wouldnt go amiss.
Understand that it isn’t entirely a normal betting website – though I would I note in passing that it isn’t a not-for-profit venture – but I’m still very disappointed with this development. In addition to gambling addiction being a massive problem and blight which disproportionately affects less affluent people, there’s already a total saturation of gambling adverts in football and sport, in general. I find it all quite depressing and it is a shame that it has now infected an otherwise lovable fansite.
It’s a real shame as I’ve been listening for years now and have always enjoyed the show. Really not sure I will be tuning in anymore.
