JOSE Mourinho set out his stall as most anticipated he would, and while Liverpool failed to break them down it wasn’t as dispiriting as the results we’ve seen in previous weeks.

Here are Anfield Wrap contributors with talking points straight from the ground after that goalless draw…

Pre Match

Phil Blundell: Their team is shit

Ian Ryan: No Eric Bailly for them is good news

Josh Sexton: Five at the back for them my Manc mate reckons

Phil Blundell: You reckon? Who’s the third CB?

Ian Ryan: Yep, Young and Valencia wing backs

Josh Sexton: That’s what I asked, he said possibly Darmian

Phil Blundell: Hmm hope they do that then

Josh Sexton: Smalling, Jones, Darmian vs Salah, Firmino, Coutinho – ATB x

Phil Blundell: Yup

First Half

Dan Morgan: Get it wide early here, see if we can get in behind them

Young not giving Moreno a second

Josh Sexton: Had these on the ropes a few times, need to be more brave around their area

Ian Ryan: Been times when we’ve been in great positions but not had enough numbers in the box

Has to go in

Ste Evans: How has he not booked him there?

Dan Morgan: two players around the ref after that Lukaku tackle, both United

Ian Ryan: Shite that had to get in the ref’s ear there, deffo a booking

Phil Blundell: I had the ball then. Exciting that, lads

Paul Senior: Nobody is arsed, Phil x

Phil Blundell: Hardly like we’ve got anything to talk about is it, Paul? The highlight of my half.

Half Time

Dan Morgan: We’re a lot better in this game when we’re taking risks. They want us to be patient

Ian Ryan: Standard Mourinho performance at Anfield so far. Loads of shape, keeping it tight as fuck and looking to nick a goal with the odd venture forward. No surprises.

Josh Sexton: Can’t believe we’ve not gone in a goal up but a good stop by Mignolet has stopped us going a goal down

Mad half

Phil Blundell: That Henderson clipped ball behind the right back is on here

Ian Ryan: Need to that thst DDG save again, looked like a quality stop but he has to score there.

Josh Sexton: Just seen the De Gea save in the concourse, was class tbf

But Coutinho probably scores if Salah doesn’t take it

Second Half

Ian Ryan: Need to make this domination count or you can see what’s coming

All over these pricks, c’mon reds.

Ste Evans: Pen all day that.

We’ve been fuckin great here by the way.

Ian Ryan: They can’t live with coutinho here

Josh Sexton: Shit subs

They’ll be made up to see the back of Phil

Ian Ryan: Can only assume he’s fucked

Post Match

Josh Sexton: Gutted we haven’t nicked that

I’d have been in town forever

Johnny Milburn: The pundits will leap to call that a “Jose Masterclass” in reality we dominated took up some amazing attacking positions and failed to test De Gea more than once or twice.

Frustrating — United came for a draw but rarely threatened once again.

Could have been out of sight with more clinical attacking and committing men to the box.

Not the jumpstart the season needs but a decent clean sheet platform.

Dan Morgan: Surely they can’t be happy watching that type of football, even at Anfield

Paul Senior: Summary: one of them.

Ian Ryan: While they’re near the top of the league and challenging I doubt the majority of their fans will care about the negative approach today and Mourinho certainly won’t with 20 points from 24.

Paul Senior: I don’t understand how when you’re top of the league you can go to your nearest rivals, and tell the side that’s beating everyone by three or four goals to put 11 men behind the ball

Dan Vincent: He sets up to get results depending on who they’re playing. He wanted that today, he got it. We played well in parts but they allowed us to have the ball and probe. They’re boring as fuck at times but I’m not sure their fans will be arsed.

We needed to try something different and have a mad last 30 imo.

Need to go and beat Spurs now, four from that six would be sound.
