It’s been an eventful few weeks at the academy so John Gibbons took a break from the usual format to talk to three football journalists about articles they had written about the youth set up at Liverpool.

Overnight Ben Rumsby from The Telegraph exclusively broke further details about Liverpool’s transfer ban at academy level and the details of why it came about. We discuss the inducements Liverpool apparently offered the 13 year old Stoke youth player and why it might only be an unusual set of circumstances that meant this particular story came out.

Much more positive news is Steven Gerrard’s new job as manager of Liverpool’s U18s. Paul Joyce from The Times tells us how Gerrard’s work ethic and attitude at Kirkby has led to Jurgen Klopp and Alex Inglethorpe wanting to give him more responsibility and the impact the move might have on the young players at the academy.

Finally Dutch writer Eric Schipper talks to us about a recent interview he has done with on loan Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi. We discuss his strengths and weaknesses as a player, the thoughts of his NEC Nijmegen manager Peter Hyballa and the lengths Liverpool go to make sure their on loan players feel part of the club.
