Rob Gutmann was joined for the ultimate Gutter of the January transfer window by Gareth Roberts and Paul Senior.
Up for discussion is a wider chat about the window in general, whether Liverpool COULD have done any business and where we are in regards to depth compared to our supposed peers.
– The Gutter descends into the depths of tabloid transfer tittle-tattle and website waffle. It can be murky down here, but we look to give you our assessment of what might be the flaming torch of truth in the darkness – and what could just be flaming nonsense. Another great show, just wanted to put another point of view forward on this .
In 1984 Liverpool won the European cup, the League, the League cup, knocked out of the FA cup in I think the 4th round at home to Brighton, we played around 70 games and used around 16 players traveling all round Europe and playing on pitches which like puddings. I think this season we will play around 45 games , no Europe and have used around 35 players playing on carpets.
I have supported Liverpool mainly from afar for 40 years and in all that time know one has explained to me why managers feel the need to make such extensive changes , if a player plays more than 3 games on the bounce then he has to be rested.
I am not blaming the players because I feel in general they just want to play but it has almost become the science and fitness teams are dictating to the manager who can be picked when and not et a manager manage and use good old instinct. They all have a role to play but to this extent?
Imagine the scene, Souness walks into the dressing room only to be told by Fagan’ you are not playing today lad cause you have played the last 3 games’ .yea right!
I know the argument is the speed and pitches was the same for everyone so it evened out, but surely to fuck this is being taken to extremes to the determent of the team on Saturday cause the back up parts of our squad are just not good enough.
In general put the best team on the pitch and we will win a hell of a lot more than we will lose, that is how Liverpool became the trophy winning monster we all want to get back to.
God you guys are good, you can make a non event interesting. Thanks for the Gutter show this month, can’t wait for the summer, when you can get your teeth into the transfer activity then.
