NATHANIEL Clyne admits he has been surprised at how well James Milner has performed as Liverpool’s left-back this season.

The right-back, who withdrew from international duty with England due to injury, has marvelled at Milner’s versatility insisting he can play anywhere on the pitch.

Clyne also claimed that he believes his compatriot is making him look bad, given the ease with which he has adapted to the new position.

He told Match of the Day magazine: “He seems to make it look easy! I’ve trained my whole career to be a full-back and he comes in and makes it look easy! He’s enjoying it and also getting on the scoresheet.

“He’s a very experienced professional — every team needs a James Milner in their side. He can play in any position.”

Clyne was quizzed on whether he believes Liverpool can win the title, but he insists the players aren’t getting carried away with their current good form.

“It’s a long way to go but we’ve done really well. We’re just going to focus on the next game,” he added.

“We haven’t had a clean sheet yet so as a defender, I’m a bit disappointed. I want to get clean sheets, but we need to work harder in training on our defending.”

The 25-year-old has been an ever-present for Liverpool since Jürgen Klopp took over, and he revealed that his manager has a nickname for him due to ability to continuously play.

“The manager has called me a ‘machine’ in the past. I’m not entirely sure why, it’s probably because I play in loads of games and rarely get injured or come off with knocks.

“All I try and do is my best for the team and try not to complain about anything.”

Clyne was also asked about Klopp, and whether he shows the same passion in the dressing room that he shows on the sidelines.

He said: “He can get angry and everyone will know about it because he gets loud! The glasses have been knocked off a few times celebrating too!”
