All good now!
I was also amazed at the ‘Enrique second most assists’ stat. I had a little look into it and Enrique has 2 assists as does half the league. I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to see Aly Cissokho given a run there. I’m hoping it’s gonna really improve us. I’m one of these people that doesn’t really have time to watch football if Liverpool aren’t involved, or my kids team, so I don’t know much about him. I remember him doing really well against us in the CL. His career seems quite odd though at times and I almost wonder whether there’s something wrong with him.
I’d like to see a back 4 of Johnson, Toure, Sakho and Cissokho. I think it’d be like an episode of Laurel and Hardy at times with the punchline being no matter what strange things go on, the ball never finds it’s way into the net. Centre halves need to be able to head a ball these days.
Anyone watch the U21s tonight? They utterly dominated the Spurs side who were level in the league before they were stuff 5-0 (could have be 8 or 9).
Teixeira came on with about 20 to go, he’s Coutinho class. I really hope he gets some game time with the first team very soon.
I wonder if the problem LFC face with the development of Raheem Sterling as a player is that they know he needs consistent games at a high level, away from the glare of Liverpool, yet given his record for off field troubles they are afraid to let him go out into a new environment where they can’t guide, mentor or control him.
In short, loaning him out is too big a risk given his propensity for courting controversy.
For the record I think Entique is hugely underrated and has become a cheap target.
Sure he has many faults, but his obvious (and too often ignored) strengths more than make up for them.
I honestly can’t think of any LB playing in the league, other than Baines, who is better.
Shaw has potential, as does Davies but can’t match him yet, Evra and Cole on the other hand are well past their prime.
The stampede to replace him without so much as a thought as to who we should/ could afford/ can attract to replace him with is baffling.
I wanna use a personal experience of mine to try and get my point across regarding Enrique.
I took over an kids team a few years ago. There were some good players but then some who were just ok. Kids footy is supposed to be about involving kids and winning is supposed to be secondary at that age. Anyway, I was always trying to find the weakest member of the squad and when I was sure i’d found him I had a word and said I want you find a club where you’ll play every minute and develop better than playing 10 mins when the game is won. I basically kicked them out. Sounds harsh but my opinion is everyone has a level and they’re better playing at it. My team now are almost unbeatable.
So what’s my point. Don’t settle for ok. Target the weak links and improve there. I think that’s Rodgers philosophy all over and so naturally, Enrique will come under scrutiny. We’ve accepted average players for too long. I like Enrique. I like a lot of things about him. He’s the best shoulder barger in the league but I want even better than him. He’s become the weakest link regardless of how good he is and we have to slay the weak if we want to be the best.
gerrard appears to be more of a liability than Enrique in our game control anyhow.
