Another outstanding track by The Ragamuffins. Ladies and gents, we have a winner for the ‘worlds greatest band’ award.
agreed.. cracking little tune!
‘Conundrum’ is probably the best way to describe it. No one knows from game to game what Liverpool is going to turn up. It’s been such a strange season that the Wigan game could be any scoreline for or against.
The thing that confuses me about this year is that with a lot of player turnover, whether we’ve been done by 2 goals in a game that we think we should be winning or we’ve blitzed someone 5-0, we basically have the same strengths and weaknesses as we did last season (some superb, unpredictable attacking play at times, inconsistent shape to the midfield, rubbish on set pieces either end, mentally lose it when faced with adversity, mess of a line). A couple of striking differences: with the exception of Zenit away, Suarez has found his finishing boots after a bizarre season in front of goal last season and we weren’t found to be so physically weak against more direct teams as we have been this season – knocking Stoke out of both cups and winning all 3 derbies.
For all this talk of ‘Year Zero’, it basically feels like the same season twice, but this time we haven’t had the squad to have the cup runs we had last year due to the tightening up of the wage bill. I think, obvious bitterness over the manager’s position last summer aside, that is where a lot of the resentfulness from sections of support comes from for FSG’s somewhat naive vision for LFC, at least on the footballing side of things anyway.
I would just challenge whether we really had the squad for cup runs last year.
Yes we had the cup runs, but league form fell off a cliff at the start of January, including a run of 6 defeats in 7 games. Having a squad for cup runs must mean being able to maintain some league form alongside those runs.
I see where you’re coming from but the league seasons are in a similar sort of ballpark (out of a realistic tilt for the top 4 by February). My point on the squad was Kenny having Maxi and Kuyt there if he wanted to rest a couple of his usual starting 11 as opposed to Joe Cole and some 18 year olds.
The job was always going to be a difficult one for Rodgers or whoever was going to come in; there was no need to tie one hand behind his back for the first half of the season till January.
