this must be the reason why they are called Joanne Joanne UK!!
who is the knb head with the bag of crisps??? In a broadcast ffs!! It’s hard enough making out what’s being said half the time as it is.
Interesting where you talk about keeping Suarez and us needing a wide man and a number 10. You were basically calling for Borini (a Kuyt figure) and Dempsey!
Basically we’re reinventing what Rafa knew we needed and built!! Are you watching Purslow????
Not sure what you lot [Andy] were going on about with Sahin / Suso.
Sahin is a deep lying midfielder orchestrating a bit like Alonso, not central / advanced midfielder like Suso. Different positions.
Allen and Sahin couldn’t manage that midfield vs Chelski, not sure what’s wrong with Sahin, it’s a bit worrying how ineffective he is for the wages we’re paying.
Allen struggles playing deep though his efforts are admirable so Rodgers has to keep on putting Gerrard next to him to make the midfield work.
The benefit of that, once Sahin is taken off, is it allows Suso to play his ideal role and he’s great there, though he’s not yet a number 10 as he doesn’t yet have goals in him.
That’s a problem for us if he is supposed to replace Gerrard. Our number 10 is key. He MUST get goals, though he is only 18 and has plenty of development to come.
What worked well in the final 30 was Suso driving up field in the centre, enrique playing left wing (who was behind him?) and helping the defender out and the other wing looking good too. More conventional for us.
I keep saying, Moyes invested in Fellaini, Jelavic, Mirallas and Pienaar and has a dangerous team that scores very well. We need to invest similarly – you could argue Suarez is our Jelavic – and stop relying on 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 year olds.
They unsurprisingly will not deliver top 6 and it’s unfair to expect them to, but can be excellent cameo subs / cup game players for their development.
>Sahin is a deep lying midfielder…
Sahin has been playing further up the pitch mate. Gerrard’s playing deeper than Sahin when they play together, which was a bit of a suprise.
re Sterling’s contract. Surprised you didn’t know that Sterling tweeted that the rumours about his contract were rubbish.
They were simply waiting for December and his 18th birthday. It’s all been hyped to lunacy.
There’s no evidence that he’s been looking elsewhere either, because he knows he wouldn’t get game time.
why did sterling then delete tweet?
Because of the clubs policy re: social media. You cannot mention contracts in any way, shape or form on social media fora.
What surprises me is that nobody seems to be worried about Pepe Reina…
He’s been out with a mystery injury for much longer than that type of injury actually takes. What was it, a ‘slight muscle strain’?
And now there is a talk that he is available for sale.
I am not pretending to have any knowledge on this, but based on a few things, as well as his body language in Being: Liverpool, it seems to me that he has not bought into Rodgers, or there is some relationship strain between him and BR, rather than a muscle strain. Which is worrying, because Pepe has maybe been out of form, but he is still a leader and a one of the core members of the 1st team.
First BR was looking to get rid of Agger, now Pepe. Two outspoken, influential players (Rafa’s players). Divide and rule?
I am a bit scared that BR may ruin the core of the team in order to extend his power, but fails to build the new solid one.
It’s nothing else than my gut feeling though. It may be totally wrong this time. It wasn’t most of the other times.
The only thing Reina looked in Being Liverpool was embarrassed to be part of the bloody thing.
It might be no harm to move him on now. The club cannot be held to ransom by this kind of nonsence anymore. BR must be given 100% support to move on anyone, just like RB was when he was in charge.
I might be asking a daft question but is there any chance of recording the podcasts slightly differently? I only ask because every time I am listening to either podcast I have to have the volume at maximum and can still barely hear a fair number of the people.
I seem to be able to listen to other podcasts clearly at about 3/4 volume so it’s not an issue with my hearing as far as I can tell.
Neil, how was Walsall? I believe it’s lovely in Autumn time?
Rb is very much in the past now but his hangover is still costing the club bigtime in every way
How toasted was Rob G when he did the Podcast fellas?
Sound quality very poor lads & not helped by the coke & crisps.
A 30 year old pulls a hamstring and you wonder why he misses some games? Come on, seriously?
Isn’t it strange how we’re all divided over the Manager again?Just like we were over Hodgson, and Dalglish.
We weren’t in the early days of Benitez when he took us to 2nd and 2 European Finals. But now? Some think he was the worst Manager we ever had!
I don’t hang on to Rodgers every word (it looks as though some of the players don’t either). But here we are;like it or lump it!
I do think that we are improving but it’s all relative at the moment.A crumb is a feast to a starving man.
What gets me really is that we made wholesale disposals before a lot of players were given much of a chance.Steve Clarke went to West Brom and just cracked on with it with the players he he had mostly.
So,here we are again;back to square one.Who knows? It might turn out O.K.I hope it does. But little by little I’m beginning not to care that much and I hate to say that.
I’d like to go back in time and give Benitez the resources he deserved .I’d like to have given Dalglish time to develop the players he bought.Remember he bought players in the past who shocked then delighted us.
But we’re stuck with Rodgers now and I just can’t have blind faith anymore.I see an improvement from where we where when he started. But is that saying anything?
I never thought I would see these days. That little rich boy David Moores should be shot! (Only joking!).
Maybe you need a little break away from the game then Brian.
Cause as much as I loved & defended the King last year, I now
see that I was wrong. He wasted millions & thought that just because ferguson could treat the media with contempt that he could as well (how wrong was he).
The future has never been brighter. Brendan is a brilliant, committed, coach who has had his hands tied. I would love to see him getting even half the backing that either Kenny or Rafa got. Every manager can be judged on his purchases, Rafa, despite some great buys, bought alot of rubbish too, as did Kenny. But thanks to our youth policy, going forward we no longer need to buy any journeymen, no more Vernonin’s etc etc. A handful of quality signings (we now have the system in place to do this) & suddenly everything will look very different.
Keeping Brendan at the club will be our biggest challange in the future. He will bring success, and it wont take him the 10 years that it took for people to start raving about Moyes. You can always come back to us when this happens.
Always enjoy the show, but feel you’re taking a little to simplistic approach to the Sterling contract stuff — as if we’d signed him on a cheapo contract before the season started we’d be able to keep him on that deal after the impact he’s had this season?
Players have all the power in football, you see it at every club, as soon as a player makes a breakthrough into the first team they get a big new contract to keep them at the club. It’s not like Football Manager where if you sign them up on a long term deal when they’re 17 & you can save money for the next 5 years until you need to renew it :)
I Just think you’re being unduly critical on the club here — do you think if we had signed Sterling up on a long-term deal for peanuts in the Summer we wouldn’t already be renegotiating that deal? Whatever deal Sterling came into the season with would be up for re-negotiation right now regardless of how long ago it was signed or how long was left to run on the contract, that’s just where we are with contracts in modern day football.
Sadly it doesn’t work both ways, see Joe Cole et al.
Agree with Dave on his Stirling contract comment. I would like to ask if anyone can shed light on the Assaidi situation that was briefly touched on in the podcast. One of the guys was saying that he was not a BR signing, if not Brendan then who is signing players?
Do we have another Purslow on our hands?

Wow thanks guys for taking the time to answer my question and that of the 3 or 4 other listeners who posted questions on here … oh wait, that’s right you couldn’t be arsed, sorry my mistake.
That was brilliant! The Kaiser (Gutto) was steamin! and made me laugh….great points well made as usual. I heard at least two cans opened and poured, hilarious.
How long did it take BR to assemble the ‘cogs’ at SCFC? Did Martinez do it, or BR, and how much were they and where did they get them from? I’m sure the info is out there but can’t be arsed. Think Drogba and Anelka are red herrings, but the rumours are strong apparently. Need a fast goal scorer, and I’m sure they’ll unearth one. D Bent would be good, he’s agitating for a move, how much would he be?
Will they sell Suarez to fund a new team? FSG will be tempted, mark my words.
