Here is a lineup which I think might work with the system Rodgers will play. Goal : Reina, center backs Coates and Skrtl, backs Agger and Johnson, dm lucas. Mid field shelvey and aqualani/henderson. Wings Downing and Suarez and then gerrard in the middle and Carroll up front. on another note enjoy your podcast a lot, though you could spend more time twating Man U and Whisky nose. Song of the day: ‘The gift’ by Lou Reed performed by Andy Carroll
“We know we have to be realistic, and it will take time for that to happen, but there are some top class players here who can make a difference.,” he said.
“For a start, there’s a world class goalkeeper in Pepe Reina. He came through at Barcelona, so he will know this way I’d like to bring in and the principles of the game.
“You’ve got Glen Johnson, who can be the world’s best right-back. Jose Enrique will only get better. You’ve got your two centre halves, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger, who’ve done really well, and a legend in Jamie Carragher who will always provide great challenge and motivation for the group.
“Then there are other players like Luis Suarez who is a great talent and scores great goals, and Steven Gerrard who – when he’s fit – is the ultimate.”
These words are from Brendan Rodgers so there’s your back 5 and I’ve also filled in the places he’s suggested above in the formation below. Notice he has not included Lucas, Downing, Carroll in this group.
But we have talented youths to add to this group in Sterling, Suso, Texiera and maybe Adoran. It also looks like Gylfi Sigurdsson is a target to play alongside Gerrard.
Fill in the blanks?

Rodgers played more a a 4-2-3-1 than a 4-3-3. I would think he would put Gerrard in the middle and Suarez on one of the wings. He seems to be interested in have goal-scorers on the wings and Gerrard can link everyone up.
If I’m reading that correctly looks you have twelve men there…
How can you make excuses for Downing (who’s poor) He’s been badly coached and not apply the same rules to Enrique???
Downing is pants get over it. He’s 27. 28 in July get rid.
Also I can’t believe you are so short sighted and have not included Sterling, Suso, Texiera and maybe Adoran from the reserves in the debate. Perfect for Rodgers system.
Discussion centres on profanity and comedy rather than real knowledgeable debate about our club. Disappointing!
Downing will more than likely only get 1 more season at Anfield. Then Sterling should be ready. It is quite dramatic how poor he have played compared to the year before at Villa. I personally think we got exiting times ahead with Rodgers as boss, but only if he is given time and only if we all give him our support
Hyperbeat,
I do hope that’s a typo there mate…… it’s far too early to have the words “Rogers” and “exiting” in the same sentence.
Absolutely spot on from whoever said that we need to give Brendan Rodgers a punt. This is how teams become successful. Look no further than Jurgen Klopp, a name I’ve heard on the podcast as being an excellent choice.
….and speaking of typos – that is of course Rodgers with a ‘d’.
*scuttles away red faced*
Sean
I Said given time and support.
Make no mistake i was as gutted as anyone when KK got booted. But the decision was made and we have to move forward with support and unity, rather than being stuck in past glory debating if Rafa would have done a better job etc.
@ Suared I can’t believe you are so short sighted as to not spell Martin Skrtel’s or Krisztian Adorjan’s names correctly. And then you ask for a knowledgable debate hahahahahaha
There’s something bugging me about Dalglish’s departure.I’ve been thinking about it for the past couple of weeks and I can’t get my head around it.
Kenny Dalglish has always been true to Liverpool. My heart keeps saying he should have been given next season because I could see improvements. My head says that if it was anybody else I might have said enough is enough!
But what I can’t understand is that he has been sacked!Kenny Dalglish sacked!
Why couldn’t FSG say to Kenny “Look at this. We’ve got to do something and this why” I can’t imagine Dalglish being a stubborn man so far as LFC is concerned and I think he should have called a press conference and been given the opportunity to say that he felt somebody else could do better.Even to introduce the New Manager and reassure us that we were in safe hands.
Dalglish should have been allowed some dignity here and I can’t help thinking that he’s not happy about something going on and I can’t help feeling that he’s thinking that for selfish reasons
I know you guys have been going on about this one for a while now, and i dont want to give you guys big heads about it, but I reckon the downing at left back call (in the absence of a top international left back, or even insua although I won’t go there) is genius! You should make sure someone suggests it quietly to brendan so he at least considers it before trying to sell him.
spot on suared, them 4 kids are diamonds
