LIVERPOOL midfielder Kevin Stewart insists that captain Jordan Henderson is the perfect role model for youngsters to follow.

The 23-year-old was part of the side that saw off Spurs in the fourth round of the League Cup on Tuesday, putting in a solid performance from the ‘number six’ role.

That role is one that has been occupied by Henderson for the majority of this season and Stewart believes that the skipper is the ideal leader within the squad.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: “He’s very consistent. He rarely gives the ball away, he’s really safe in his play, defensively really good and offers a lot of protection.

“When the front players need to do their bit, he’s always there for insurance. He’s just a leader in general.

“He is really experienced and has gone down the path I want to in the future.

“To see what he goes through and what he is doing is really important, to have a look and not copy him exactly but learn from what he does.”

Stewart also had praise for Henderson on a personal level, highlighting him as somebody that young players can go to for advice without being overawed.

“He’s a really cool guy. He doesn’t come across as a big, scary captain.

“He’s a really calm, settled guy and is really approachable. That’s perfect for younger players to not feel too intimidated.”
